April does what it wants.

True to the old saying, it wasn't certain until the very end whether the weather would hold.
And it held: the first cycling race up the Mendel Pass took place under cloudy skies, but without rain. Of the 146 participants originally registered, just over 100 eventually turned up at the start to take part in the first stage of the 2016 SouthTyrol.Mountain.Cup for amateur cyclists. Among them were numerous Italian and national category champions as well as mountain specialists who were keen to take part in the first edition of the MendelRace. Last year's overall winner of the Südtirol.Berg.Cup, Michael Tumler, was unfortunately unable to take part due to an injury.

The race was extremely exciting and was only decided in the final sprint: the 35-year-old Andrea Zamboni from Trento came out on top just ahead of his team-mate from Kaltern, Michael Obrist. The women's race was won by Alexandra Hober, who competes for the Athletic Club Merano - overall winner of the Südtirol.Berg.Cup 2015 - ahead of Vinschgau long-distance specialist Marina Ilmer.

The race went quite well for the Dynamic Bikers: the fastest up the Mendel Pass was Michael Aster from Girlan in 19th place overall; he was able to beat the club champion Andreas Kofler (second fastest) and celebrated revenge for the defeat he suffered last year. Third place in the internal club ranking went to Christian Resch, who was only narrowly beaten.

The first MendelRace is now history.

We from the Dynamic Bike Team are of course delighted that (almost) everything worked out and are somewhat proud to have organised this race.
Of course, you can't organise an event like this on your own, so here are a few lines of thanks.

We would like to thank the representatives of the municipality of Eppan led by Mayor Wilfried Trettl, the Mayor of Ruffré Donato Seppi and the local police of Eppan and Kaltern for their valuable assistance.
