MTB GRUNDIG World Cup in Bassano del Grappa (TN)

On the previous Sunday (2 May 1993, a.d.R.), two of our mountain bikers tried their luck at the GRUNDIG World Cup in Bassano del Grappa. First of all, they had to qualify for the actual race out of 400 competitors. In addition to the 50 fixed starters, only a further 80 were allowed to take part. ‘Checco’ Todesco was thrown back hopelessly in qualifying due to a flat tyre and problems with the gears. Albert Rinner, on the other hand, was among those who were allowed to compete with the likes of John Tomac, Thomas Frischknecht and co. on Sunday. The race turned out to be extremely difficult, and the unusually long distance caused problems for many riders. Albert Rinner, benefiting from the high drop-out rate, fought his way through and reached the finish line in seventy-second place. It should be remembered that the world's best mountain bikers were at the start in Bassano.

The international Italy Cup starts next Sunday in Ancona. Some of our athletes will also be competing there. The others are training at home for the upcoming Jesolo race. It is rumoured that there will be a particularly large number of athletes taking part this year. That's fine by us. Every additional cyclist is one less car driver.
