Bikeclub Überetsch Club Race 1998

That there is some truth in the Bible verse "The last shall be first", we could convince ourselves of this last Sunday in the course of the club championship.
How else can it be explained that the elite rider Werner Weiss, who was otherwise always good for top places during the season, suddenly came in last.

All joking aside. Let's briefly talk about the competition mode. Our aim was to give all participants equal opportunities. Therefore, after a short inspection lap of the course, each biker was able to get as close as possible to the five laps. Aids such as watches and odometers clearly had to be handed in before the start. Now it was important not to underestimate or overestimate oneself and one's abilities and to complete the laps as evenly as possible.

What came out of this requires more detailed analysis. The winner was Heinrich Prossliner, a master butcher who probably trains his feeling for accurate estimation by cutting salami slices every day. Second was Max Niedermayr, how could it be otherwise, a bank clerk, third Paul Prossliner, a farmer and therefore a cool calculator. Fourth was Reinhard Giovanelli, again a bank employee. So the top ranks are all occupied by sharp calculators who knew how to use their skills skilfully in a sporting way. At the end of the ranking are all our model athletes, who underestimated themselves so much by bolting that they stayed up to 10 or more minutes under the time they had set. None of them really took the bible word seriously.
The first will be the last.
