18th Ötztal Radmarathon 1999

Werner the best!

After recovering from injury, Werner is back in top shape and has regained his form.
He proved this at this year's Ötztal Marathon. With a length of 238 km and an altitude difference of 5,500 metres, this racing bike marathon is one of the toughest long-distance races in Europe. The start took place on the Austrian side in Steinach am Brenner. The 2,000 riders had to cycle up to the Brenner Pass, over the Jaufen Pass, over the Timmelsjoch and down into the Ötztal. The last pass awaiting the participants was the very steep Kühtai Pass.
Werner was very enthusiastic about the race itself. Having finished 7th overall last year, he was able to improve his position this year. He crossed the finish line in fifth place and best Italian with a total time of 7 hours and 43 minutes. Werner only lost 8 minutes to the winner, who incidentally was a professional rider from Germany.
The DB team is delighted with this great success and wishes him many more good placings.
