Extreme cyclist Beat Hauser with a new project

8/3/2010

Beat Hauser from Passeiertal Valley wants to climb a whole 1 million metres of altitude on his racing bike in 2010

After 50,000 annual kilometres in 2008 and 730,000 metres of elevation climbed in 2009, Beat Hauser from Passeiertal Valley has set his sights on 1,000,000 (one million!) metres of elevation for 2010. That's 2,740 metres per calendar day.
Will and can he achieve it?

"The emotional situation can be compared to the volatility on the financial markets, but I am in good spirits," says Hauser.
"I had a strong start in the first three weeks of the year in Gran Canaria. I had the opportunity to keep numerous cycling pros company during training. I had to accept a slight setback when I returned to the cold Passeir valley. As of 1 March 2010, I have already collected 206,940 metres of altitude in the club kit of the Dynamic Bike Team."

Here is the Hauser's record from the previous year (2009):

  • 730.000 m elevation (2.000 per calendar day)
  • 40.000 kilometres
  • 390 passes, of which
    • 81x Jaufenpass/Passo Giovo
    • 62x Mendelpass/Passo della Mendola
    • 60x Gampenpass/Passo Palade
    • 27x Timmelsjoch/Passo Rombo
