"Tour of exertions": on a racing bike from Esslingen (GER) to Eppan

It all started many years ago: Sepp Meraner, a resident of Köngen (in the district of Esslingen, Germany) had the idea of cycling from his home to his old home in South Tyrol, more precisely to Eppan. He then did it.

A few years later, his son Helmut took up his father's idea again and cycled from Germany to Eppan once a year. This year again, he was joined by 2 colleagues: Max Gorbenko and Christian Fischer started together with Helmut at 4.30 am in Altbach near Esslingen. The three of them spent the whole day on their racing bikes, and after 445 km and 3,650 metres of altitude, they arrived in Eppan the same evening (!) at around 8 pm. A strong performance!

And for Helmut it was even a jubilee: this year was the 20th time that the former Eppan resident had taken on the strain! Accordingly, the three athletes received a fitting welcome in Eppan, and Sepp Meraner, the initiator of this road bike tour, which has become a tradition, once again highlighted and honoured this extraordinary sporting achievement.
A small side note: Helmut's two colleagues, Christian and Max, cycled another 300 km back the next day. Unfortunately, one of them fell shortly after the start in Unterrain and broke his wrist, but nevertheless cycled the distance - RESPECT!

Here are a few more key data of the "Tour of Strains":
