2nd edition of the "Südtirolman Passeiertal"

The 2nd edition of the Südtirolman Passeiertal on Saturday, 3 October, took place in mixed weather conditions. The sky cleared up a little in time for the start at 11 a.m. and it remained dry throughout the race.

The choice of course this year demanded everything from the athletes. Especially for the triathletes, the race was very demanding. Both the triathlon and the duathlon started with the mountain bikes at the newly created fish pond below the Sandwirt in a very relaxed atmosphere. The course led along the Passerdammweg to the village centre, from where the athletes were challenged with the Kirchweg, Platzerberg, Karlegg sections. The first changeover took place after almost 12 km at the sports field in Walten. From here, the duathletes had to complete the 4.3 km running course, which was divided into 1.5 km skating and 2.8 km running for the triathletes. The finish was the charming Wanserhof, where the participants could fortify themselves and eagerly await the prize distribution.

David Pixner, local hero and last year's winner of the triathlon, was unable to take part in the race this year for professional reasons. His brother Philipp Pixner narrowly missed out on 2nd place and came an excellent third in the triathlon behind top triathlete Urbano Ferrazzi from SC Meran Triathlon. The best time of the day in the men's individual triathlon was achieved by Alex Oberbacher of Gardena Runner with an outstanding time of 55.18.17.

In the women's individual triathlon, Lisa Verdorfer from Tscherms came third behind Sabine Unterer from Rennerclub Vinschgau, who won the Andreas-Hofer-Volkslauf/Südtirolman combined ranking. The women's race was won by Julia Frank from Tscherms with a time of 1:24.02.00.

In the men's individual duathlon Markus Götsch from Dynamic Bike Team Eppan achieved the best time of the day with 56.39.24, in the women's event Helga Flora Platzgummer with a time of 1:11.54.99.

A total of 15 different categories were awarded prizes.
In the ranking of the clubs with the most participants, the Full Sport Meran team was in first place with 7 athletes, ahead of the Rennerclub Vinschgau and ASV Jenesien. It is disappointing that no athlete from ASC Passeier was at the start.
