MTB tour over the Eisjöchl to the Stettiner Hütte (2,875m)

3/8/2020

"This summer will be a summer with many MTB tours", that's what we had planned at the beginning of the season. Last Saturday, another of the planned tours followed; as previously announced, this time we went over the Eisjöchl to the Stettiner Hütte (2,875m), a high alpine tour with a mountain panorama.

The group, ranging in age from 16 to 66, met in Merano at 7.30 a.m., from where the tour was to start. At the beginning, the ascent was mostly on asphalt; from the Jägerrast Vorderkaser inn, the wonderful forest road through the Pfossental valley finally began. At the beginning it was still a gravel road, but the ground became steeper and stonier.
In addition, the heat was slowly increasing, despite the altitude of over 2,000m already reached!
A short refill of the water bottles at the Eishof Pfossental, then we continued.

Around noon we reached our destination - and the highest point of the tour: the Eisjöchl (2,895m), followed by lunch at the nearby Stettiner Hütte. After lunch, the highlight of the tour followed: the almost 5km long descent on the stony rocky path towards Pfelders, where the "downhill faction" could really let off steam. Once at the bottom, the group rolled down through the Pfelders valley to St. Leonhard in Passeier, and then along the cycle path to Merano, the starting point of the tour.
