The twelfth edition of the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites took place in Selva Gardena on Saturday 18 June in sunny weather. With its legendary route around the Sella massif in the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the event has been considered the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world since its inception.
The importance of this race was also underlined by the live broadcast for over two hours in more than 40 countries around the world, from the United States to South America, from Europe to North Africa, from the Middle East to Indonesia.

This Saturday, more than 4,500 mountain bikers from a total of 42 countries gathered at the starting line, including two dynamic bikers, Cristina Nardin (86 km) and Gregor Pinggera (60 km).

On the 86-kilometre “long course” with an elevation gain of 4,500 metres, Cristina was able to ride at her own pace from the start and, with a steady ride, reached the finish line after a remarkable 7h31 in third place in her category.

Gregor, on the other hand, after his enormous effort two weeks ago at the Ortler Bike Marathon with almost 4,000 metres of elevation gain, chose the shorter distance of 60 km and 3,200 metres of elevation gain, starting in the U23 category. He felt very good from the start and not even a flat tyre could prevent him from achieving a good result on this day: in a time of 4h06, Gregor crossed the finish line delighted in 8th place in his category.
