What is the best way to spend a bank holiday?
There are several ways to do this: one of them is certainly to take part in an MTB race!

That's what some of our young racers thought, too, and so at half past six in the morning, we set off in the club bus towards Rivoli Veronese. There, the 3rd stage of the Veneto Cup Giovanile took place, with the cross country race La Mesa Bike.

Unfortunately, the weather did not quite cooperate: once at the race track, the inspection of the track could not be carried out (for the time being) due to rain - it was decided to wait for the announced improvement in the weather.
And this came about an hour later; in the meantime, the start of the first race had been postponed from 9am to 9.45am. And this postponement was to have an effect on us ... but more on that later.

Our junior squad was able to make up for the planned inspection of the race course (shortened to 3.5 km with 95 metres of altitude difference) around noon: in sunshine and with the course drying up, they rode the circuit 1x at normal speed in order not to risk a fall.

The first start took place at 1.30 p.m. with a delay of one and a half hours, namely that of the Esordienti categories. Paul Marschall started the race, followed by Jakob Weger and then Julia Kostner, each 30 seconds behind the other. She had 2 laps to complete, Paul and Jakob 3 each, so it was Julia who reached the finish line first: she was able to catch the rival in front of her on the long finishing straight, thus securing an excellent 2nd place. In the boys' race, Jakob had already caught up with Paul after 1 lap, and together they completed the remaining 2 laps. For Paul, this meant 24th place at the finish, while Jakob reached 6th place.

Shortly after the two boys crossed the finish line, darker clouds began to gather: first it started to rain, then a heavy thunderstorm followed. Johannes Bendetta, who had just finished warming up and was now supposed to start together with the 15- to 16-year-olds, was still waiting in the club bus when shortly afterwards he was informed that the race had been cancelled: no race for him today.
