Podium at the Mountain Bike Marathon Italy Championship

And it continues with the national title competitions in mountain biking: last Saturday Telve (Valsugana) was the venue for the MTB Italy Championship in Marathon, for international (Junior/U23/Elite) and amateur categories (Master).

Within the framework of the Valsugana Wild Ride race, there were 2 routes to choose from: the long marathon route with 70 km and 3,400 hm on which the national champions were determined, and a shorter classic route with 37 km and 1,600 hm open to all participants. The courses themselves were washed out due to the heavy rainfall of the previous days, with very steep climbs and rapid descents, and a relatively high proportion of asphalt roads.

Dynamic bikers Gregor Pinggera and Sebastian Bertoli as well as Michael Volgger (Marathon), who starts for the Junior Team South Tyrol, and youth coach Lorenz Psaier (Classic) were at the start. The starting signal was given at 8.30 a.m., and things started extremely fast from the beginning: our boys had to be careful not to burn themselves out on the first climb.
The support staff were positioned at 4 points to supply the athletes with fluids and gels. But halfway through the race, the fastest Dynamic biker up to that point, Gregor, was struggling with stomach problems and had to stop the race early. So it was Sebastian who crossed the finish line in 43rd place overall, and with a time of just over 4 hours he finished in 3rd place in his age group! Behind him, Michi finished in 62nd place.
On the short Classic course Lorenz Psaier reached 18th place (Master 6).
