2nd race of the MTB Südtirol Cup 2023 in neighbouring Trentino

After the first race on Saturday 20 May in Gais (race report here), race no. 2 of the MTB Raiffeisen Südtirol Cup 2023 series followed on Sunday 4 June in neighbouring Trentino. The venue of the cross country race was the 800-strong village of Panchià in the Val di Fiemme, where the jerseys of the Trentino national champions in the amateur categories were awarded at the same time.

The Dynamic Bike Team from Eppan came with 8 athletes, including - besides the youth team - the two amateurs Antonio Mariani and Moritz Giuliani.
And the first race of the day started at 10.30 a.m. exactly with the amateur categories, which had to ride a total of 5 laps. Contrary to the forecasts (it had rained the two days before, softening the ground), the weather (still) held, and so the two finished dry, in 5th (Antonio) and 6th (Moritz) place in their category.

The second race was contested by the schoolchildren's categories (Esordienti), where Julia Kostner had to hold her own in the girls' category and Paul Marschall, Jakob Weger and Samuel Kofler in the boys' category. Julia was able to keep her opponents at bay right from the start and finished her race with an impressive victory: the lead over the second placed was almost 1 minute. In the boys' race it was again Jakob Weger who rode a strong race and was rewarded with 2nd place: he rode the fastest race lap in his age group. Samuel could not cope with the conditions of the track at all, and placed 28th after 2 laps. Paul also had slight problems with the wet and soggy surface, and placed 20th.

At the third start - it had started to rain in the meantime - all youth categories (Allievi) now gathered: for them it was "3 laps in continuous rain". Hannes Volgger had his difficulties, his legs felt very heavy from the beginning. Johannes Bendetta fared much better, who rode a spirited race and was rewarded with 18th place in the end - and thus collected his first national Top Class points. For Hannes it was finally 28th place.

Thanks to the team of the Unione Sportiva Litegosa around president Dario Bellante, who manages to organise a MTB Cross Country race in Panchià every year!

Important:
The next race of the series will take place on Saturday 13 August in Klausen: at the 360° City Race Klausen (see report here ->) the jerseys of the South Tyrolean regional Champions in MTB Cross Country will then be awarded!
