Thomas Grüner and his 24-hour solo tour around Lake Garda

 

This was last seen in the days of our extreme cyclist Beat Hauser:
Thomas Grüner, our current provincial uphill racing bike champion, used the first weekend in September for a long individual ride.
This began on Friday 6th September in the evening on his doorstep, and ended exactly 24 hours later back at his home. In between there were 3 (!) non-stop circumnavigations of Lake Garda, i.e. a whole 650 kilometres and 3,200 metres in elevation - on his own on his racing bike, without any external supplies.
Of course, we're interested to know what drives someone to tackle such a hellish tour.
