Austrian victories at the Edelrot Trophy 2024; Götsch and Wieser on the podium

The 2024 edition of the Edelrot Trophy is all about "red-white-red" and crowns Rene Pammer the winner. The 31-year-old Austrian from the Next 125 team mastered the ramps of the Gampen Pass the fastest and also set a new course record. At the finish, he relegated Philip Götsch from Merano and Franz Wieser from Val Badia to second and third place.

More than 100 participants lined up at the start of the mountain race for amateurs, which is the second of the three stages of the 2024 Südtirol.Berg.Cup, which opened last month with the MendelRace. The athletes had to tackle the 17.7-kilometre route from Lana to the 1,518-metre-high Gampen Pass with 1,204 metres of elevation gain.

After a first section at a controlled pace, the official start was given and after just two kilometres, the pace picked up considerably. After about half of the race, four athletes were still in the lead, namely Celebi Hüseyin from Turkey, Franz Wieser, the defending champion and current MendelRace winner Philip Götsch and the Austrian Rene Pammer.
Over the course of the remaining kilometres, first Hüseyin and then Wieser had to let go, leaving just two athletes - Pammer and Götsch - who had already fought a fierce battle on the ascent to the MendelRace in mid-April.
In the final, the two tried to attack each other, but the decisive sprint only came in the last kilometre, when the Austrian managed to shake off his rival and take victory, including a new event record: 45'47" was the winner's time, beating Götsch by 15 seconds.'
The battle for the third step of the podium was won by Franz Wieser with 1:31 minutes, Celebi Hüseyin finished fourth, 1:55 minutes behind Pammer.

Austria was also successful in the women's race, with Julia Sörgel raising her arms to the sky with a time of 1:00:57, followed by her compatriot Franziska Ehrenreich (Union Raiffeisen) and Annalisa Adami from Trentino, who finished second and third 2:06 minutes and 7:01 minutes behind.

The third and final round of the Southtyrol.Mountain.Cup will be held on Saturday 29th June with the M2 Bike Trophy with the ascent to the Jaufenpass.
