Eva Lechner

Italy's most successful female mountain biker

At the age of 15, she bought a mountain bike with her first self-earned money. The rest is history and continues to this day ...

Eva had already tried a few sports as a child or teenager, but she didn't really enjoy any of them. Until she found a sport with her new mountain bike that awakened a passion in her. She wanted more, sought out like-minded people and wanted to keep learning.

Her mother, who used to be a track and field athlete herself, advised her to ask at the Sanvit bike shop in Eppan (where she had bought her bike): there was a photo of a group of young bikers and their coach. This coach, Antonio Anglani, took her along on the next training ride and was immediately impressed by Eva's talent.

Already in the following year, Eva took part in her first MTB race in spring 2001. During this race, the coach of the South Tyrolean national team became aware of her and invited Eva to a training camp. From then on she was part of the team and took part in bigger and bigger races. In the same year, Eva won the title of Italian Champion in her age group, and in the following year, as a junior, she won the "Internazionali d'Italia Series", became Italian Champion again and European Vice Champion. In her second year as a junior, she became Italian Champion again, took 4th place at the European Championships, and crowned herself with the Vice World Champion title in Lugano (SUI).

In 2004 - after 3 very successful years - the change to a professional team followed: the team Colnago Cap Arreghini, with the then team manager Edmund Telser, brought her in.
And her unique sporting career began.
